30/3 -22/4 – An Easter Egg hunt: Dragons and Chocolate…Buttons, Lowther Castle, Penrith, CA10 2HH

This year, our egg-hunt – an annual favourite for miles around – is based once again around the theme of Dragons and Chocolate.
Only for 2019, the trail will have a chocolate button angle.  More details to follow but be sure to make a moment to come to Lowther for a few hours of chocotastic funtime

01/04 – 22/04 Easter Chicks at Rheged, Rheged Centre, Redhills, Penrith CA11 0DQ

Come and visit our resident chicks courtesy of Lakes Free Range, we have a viewing incubator so you can come and see the eggs hatching every day.  Help us name our Rheged chick and the winner will receive a special prize.

04/04 – Egg-splosive Easter Science -Lowther Castle and Gardens, Lowther, Penrith, CA10 2HH
The science of Easter may be overlooked in the National Curriculum but here at Lowther, it is taken very seriously. Back again, the very popular Science Booth and this time, they explore – in appropriate Easter style – the chemical and physical properties of eggs. Highlights to include demonstrations of the naked bouncy egg and the impossible egg-in-a-bottle. Young scientists will also make their own easter catapult to take home.
An interactive 60 minute workshop for boys and girls (recommended age 5+). Parental supervision essential.
Opening Times: 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm
£10 per child for Castle, Garden and Workshop

05/04 – Kendal Mountain Festival UK Tour 2019 – The Rheged Centre, Redhills, Penrith, CA11 0DQ

Calling all adventure lovers! The award-winning Kendal Mountain Festival is back on the road with its UK Tour. Join us for an evening packed full of amazing films and awe-inspiring talks from some of the world’s most impressive adventurers.  Enjoy the spirit and inspiration of the Festival and celebrate the exploration of some of the wildest places on earth.

£18 standard / £10 under 25yrs.

13/04 – Orton Farmers Market – Orton, near Penrith, Cumbria, CA10 3RU

Orton Farmers’ Market happens on the second Saturday of every month and includes over 25 local farmers, growers, producers and artisan craftsmen offer a tremendous variety of high quality and speciality local produce and crafts Orton is a tranquil, attractive (and award winning) village that nestles in the heart of Eden.  The village is transformed on market day by the sights, sounds and smells of a thriving country market.     With live music at most markets, special events such as cookery demonstrations, an award-winning chocolate factory on the doorstep, and parking for the disabled, a trip to the award-winning Orton Farmers’ Market is a great day out for the whole family.

20/04 – Bugs, beasts and ladybirds: Children’s Workshop, Lowther Castle and Gardens, Lowther, Penrith, CA10 2HH

This year’s early burst of Spring has meant that the bugs and the beasts are out in force. Come and join our experienced wildlife ranger Kelly Gimson on a walk into the woods at Lowther and Kelly will show you how to find and examine minibeasts. Minibeast-hunters must be prepared for all weathers, so you may need to bring waterproof clothing. All ages welcome. Parental supervision required – adults just need a Castle and Gardens ticket.
£4 per child for annual child passholders

£10 per child for Castle, Gardens and Minibeast session

(you must have a Castle and Gardens Ticket to take part in the minibeast hunt). Booking required due to limited amount of minibeast hunting kits – 10 max per session. Meet outside the Sculpture Gallery

20/4 and 21/4 – Cumbria Easter Rally, At various locations around Kirkby Stephen, CA174QS
Fabulous free classic commercial vehicle rally with the picturesque event returning to Kirkby Stephen and Brough on Saturday 20 April and Sunday 21 April 2019.  From 10am to 5pm.  Free entry. Remember to park your car at Brough or at Kirkby Stephen station and take the Classic “donation only” bus ride between event sites starting at 10am.  Last bus 16:30.

21/04 – Carrs Mine Trip and Open Day at Nenthead Mines Nenthead Mines, Nenthead, Alston, CA9 3PN
You can take an underground tour of Carrs Mine, see our displays of minerals, mining equipment and historic photographs, and visit the 100 metre deep Brewery Shaft – where you can stand on top of the shaft.  Then round your visit off with tea, coffee and homemade cakes. Our mine trips take about 90 minutes. We provide lamps and helmets.

The Rheged Centre is an award winning visitor attraction just outside Penrith on the A66.
Throughout April there are a number of events and activities taking place including;

3D printing- Paper weaving
Family theatre- Exhibitions
Cookery classes- Animal encounters
Cinema/ film club- Lots of interactive workshops
Exhibitions – Story Telling

All this things along with soft-play, shops and cafes. There literally is something for everyone!

The National Trusts properties in Cumbria host a wealth of events and activities throughout spring.
