Testimonials for Hawthorn Retreat Shepherds Hut
Sorry for the late review, we couldn't of pick a better time for weather if we tried but the lodge was perfect exactly what you need, waking up with the sound of the river and the trees was unreal not to mention the welcome basket. The jam wow, if you are thinking of booking this do it now 👏

A short stay for my birthday, my husband got in touch with Christine beforehand to plan for decorations as a surprise - they were amazing! The cabin is lovely, very cosy with a comfortable bed. Little hamper of supplies on arrival was a treat. Great location, nothing better than sitting on the deck with a cup of tea, listening to nothing but the river, relatively short drive for Keswick and Whinlatter. Would absolutely stay again!

Had an amazing stay at Hawthorn Retreat, the shepherd's hut is very secluded on the river bank and you can hear the gentle flow of the river, so relaxing. The shepherd's hut has everything you need, was a treat to have kitchen roll, washing up liquid etc all provided and a lovely welcome hamper, which we enjoyed too..thank you! Beautiful area, nice local pub in Greystoke for evening meals. Short drive to Keswick and aira force, we did gowbarrow fell.We would definitely recommend Hawthorn Retreat and would love to return soon.

I heard about the Hawthorn Retreat through my aunt who lives locally, and I'm so glad she suggested it because we didn't find anything nearly as nice on any of the sites we were looking at.
My partner and I love secluded cabins and have stayed in a few places like this in the highlands, but the Hawthorn Retreat really is a cut above the rest and we really appreciated how much thought and care had gone into everything. My partner is an architect and we were marvelling at all the details and how well built everything is. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we were delighted to find loads of wood and charcoal ready for us. Everything was perfect and we really didn't want to leave. It is such a gem of a place and we will definitely recommend it to friends.

A stunning location and fantastic accommodation. Completely off the grid and peaceful. A 15 minute walk or so takes you into the tiny village of Greystoke - a lovely little village.

We had an lovely weekend stay at Hawthorn Retreat recently for our friends’ wedding. The hamper in the hut when we arrived was incredible, especially the Rowley jam (that and the loaf of bread barely lasted two days)! We had plenty of charcoal and wood for the barbecue and fire pit, and really enjoyed sitting outside for our dinner listening to the sound of the river in the gully below us. Super relaxing evening (only comment is that it would have been handy to have some tongs for the bbq, but we just used the spatula and literally EVERYTHING else we thought of or needed was there so no complaints here!). The cows in the field across from us deciding we needed a 4am dawn chorus on one of the days was particularly funny. We’d absolutely return if we’re back in the area. Can’t fault our stay at all!

We had a great stay at Hawthorn Retreat over the weekend. It was in a beautiful setting, so peaceful and quiet.
The shepherd's hut was lovely inside and stocked with everything we could possibly need, the BBQ and fire pit were a great bonus.
We definitely recommend a visit and hope to go back there some time!

This trip was amazing from start to finish, after a gruelling 9 hour drive, our check in time was kindly brought forward. The hut was so remote, hidden, and beautiful. It has its own private bit of the river below, a bbq area and extra seating on the balcony area. Inside each little thing has been thought out, from a very welcome bed through to the kitchen which has everything you need to a bathroom provided with shampoo, conditioner, sprays and cleaning products. A basket with eggs, milk, home made jam, bread, coffee, tea and cereal and orange juice was on the side. It was so homely and so nice how much things had really been thought about. The location was ideal, with things only a short distance around. No signal in the Sheppard's hut - but that was what i needed as i was trying to detox from work and have a romantic weekend with my partner. Will 100% book again and likely for longer next time as two nights was just not long enough. BOOK NOW and trust me you will not regret it.

Hello Christine,
Wow, Wow, Wow,
Just wanted to let you know what a fantastic time we had this week in our Shephards Hut. Absolutely stunning location and beautiful Hut. Compliments to everyone. The Hut was perfectly set out, with everything we needed, from the welcome hamper to the fire pit and very comfortable bed.
The best place we have ever stayed in, over 30 years of holidaying in the U.K.
An amazing place you have created.
Also a massive thank you to Jill and the other ladies who on our departure showed us round the Hall. What an incredible building, please pass on our thanks, they were so nice and we chatted for ages.
A truly lovely holiday in a stunning place.
Thank you
Andy

Having had the pleasure of staying with Rowley Estates before (Cazenovia Hall and Hause Hall) we jumped at the opportunity to be able to book one of their new shepherd huts. We were hopeful that they would be to the same amazing standard as the halls but on a smaller scale and we were not disappointed. Christine told me that they were even more amazing than the photos portrayed and boy she was right. Sitting on the decking outside the immaculately presented hut where you have absolutely everything you need and listening to the river below is priceless. Forget wifi and tv, kickback, relax and take in your surroundings and not an electronic screen. Three nights at Hawthorn Retreat was perfect for recharging our batteries and we will definitely return. Christine was wonderful at sorting out a small problem we had before we arrived and we love the personal service you get with Rowley Estates.
Thank you once again Christine and Charles and to Jilly for the contact when we returned home.
