Situated amid the ancient trees of Whinlatter Forest, the WildPlay trail offers a charming 600-metre woodland adventure designed for children aged around 6–13. It winds through nine imaginative play zones featuring a giant climbing frame and wall, rope and tyre swings, a secret “fairy kingdom” play hut, balancing beams, and a thrilling long slide. A highlight is the hands-on water play area, where kids turn Archimedes screws to lift stream water into troughs, learning about physics in a playful way. The trail is free to use, though parking charges apply, and is easily accessible from the visitor centre which also offers a café, toilets, and picnic spots. It’s a wonderful way for families to stretch their legs and let children explore nature and play in one of England’s only mountain forests.
