Enjoy a spell of splendid isolation in total luxury
Adventurers, walkers and hermits – this is your place. A hairpin track climbs through bracken-rich crags to the isolated five-star opulence of Hause Hall, a dry-stone beauty of a farmstead, where barn owls rear their young in the eaves. Stretch out on luxurious sofas in your spectacular glass-walled day room and feast your eyes on Lakeland hill views that out-wuther the Brontes. Warm rows of toes (and paws) at the four-oven Aga. For grand festivities or silly board games, gather loved ones round the long kitchen trestle. Regroup around the two crackling log fires for wine, conversation, laughter and song.
Breakfast under wandering clouds
Spill out onto your spacious terrace for elegant drinks parties, lazy breakfasts and smoking barbecues against a backdrop of green-gold hills and wandering clouds. The gardens and grounds of Hause Hall flow naturally into the landscape beyond: you can ramble free straight from your back gate, up rugged sheep tracks, over glittering brooks, as butterflies and swifts skitter in your wake, to the summit of Hallin Fell. Glacial hills and the slate-blue lake of Ullswater unfurl around you, a view prized by famed local writer, Wainwright, as ‘the most beautiful and rewarding in the Lakeland.’ And if the heavens open, you’re still just moments from the absolute comfort of home.
Stargaze in your bath!
After long days out, the burnished beams and limewashed walls of Hause Hall welcome you home like a hug. Stargaze from your rolltop bath under the eaves as you soak aching limbs. Or revive in the steam of your rainfall shower. Feather duvets and smooth Egyptian cotton sheets cosset you as you drift off to a view through your casement window of the moon rising over the wild lands beyond.
If you can bear to leave...
Stroll downhill to ivy-clad Howtown Hotel for lunch or a drink in the snug. Call in at their walkers’ tearoom, where muddy boots and dogs are welcomed, for fresh-baked scones. Pick up the Ullswater Steamer from Howtown Pier to Aira Force or potter round the lakeside villages. Lap up old-world charm at Michelin-starred Sharrow Bay. Burn it off biking, hiking, riding, windsurfing, kayaking and angling – the outdoors is your oyster here. Go wild on the fells with your hounds at your heels or return to civilization with a trip to Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake.
