We visited Blencowe Hall for a week in August 2024. Our group included 8 adults and seven children with ages ranging from 5 to 17. We also had three dogs.

The booking process was simple and responsive and the welcoming packages in the kitchen and the Lakeland toiletries in the bathrooms were very much appreciated.

The size of the Hall and its grounds meant that four family groups were able to enjoy both their own space and being able to eat and socialise together in comfort. The younger children loved the historical feel of the buildings and the fact that they could race and chase each other in a sizable garden!

The cooking and dining facilities were outstanding for a large family group. If wanted, children could eat and have fun on a separate table in both the kitchen and the main dining rooms and there were also two outside seating locations for sunny days and evenings.

Although not in the heart of the Lake District, Blencowe Hall is only a short drive from Ullswater and there are many child and adult friendly acctivities that are easily accessible.

We celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary at Blencowe at the end of August 2024, with our 5 married children and 15 grandchildren, a total of 27! It was absolutely fabulous. Every aspect of it worked wonderfully well, the outside spaces, the dining room, kitchen, bedrooms and numerous common areas for quiet chats and noisier competitive card games. Christine was incredibly helpful, warm and professional in all her dealings, and quick in responses. We woke on the Sunday to find the Aga cold. Within an hour there was an engineer fixing it – yes, on a Sunday morning! Everything is very well set up, with a high level of cleanliness. We also used Lynn Hilditch for catering, Pizza Van on Friday night, and for the formal dinner on Saturday – she was also excellent. Her Tuscan Platter certainly exceeded any we had enjoyed during our very regular trips to Tuscany over the last 30 years, and her Beef Wellington impressed even the experienced family connoisseurs!
We unhesitatingly recommend Blencowe Hall, it is spectacular, and thank everyone for such a happy and memorable weekend. Nigel

Very nice great location little touches were appreciated

Stunning location and house! We had a brilliant weekend here for my 30th birthday celebrations. Christine goes above and beyond. She was helpful and responded quickly to any queries in the run up to the weekend. Everything was provided for and set up in perfect condition! The house is a short drive from Penrith Station and we also managed a walk to the pub in the local village of Greystoke – who had a live band on! Lynn Hilditch Catering provided food (for 27 people) on the Saturday evening which was delicious and really well done – Lynn accommodated different dietary requirements with no fuss too. Would definitely recommend and book Blencowe Hall again 🙂

When selecting a large property to entertain 30+ guests, for a long weekend in a fine location, you won’t go far wrong than to select Blencowe Hall near Penrith.

With its ancient battlements and four feet thick walls, large rooms, very comfortable accommodation all round, with some bedrooms to die for, and the character of a medieval house, you will not be disappointed.

The Rowley Estate team, led by Christine, are fastidious in their endeavours to make the welcome one to remember and they couldn’t be more helpful.

I’ve lost count of how many times were used Blencowe to host our Retreats – yet the property blows us away again! Can highly recommend 🙂

Beautiful, amazing, stunning.

A really wonderful place to stay. Everything you could want is provided and the beds are so comfy. Super for children and dogs as well as adults.
Special memories made. Loved it.

We had an amazing stay for my Grandmas 80th birthday. The location was perfect and the castle was AMAZING. Christine was so responsive with any queries we had. Would love to return!

You use where possible local sourced food & products, we too tried to use local hospitality . It was everything we imagined … Having been to the hall for several events over the years , we ourselves knew what to expect, but the family were excited & impressed with the venue & food from Lynn Hilditch.
