We have a fantastic stay in the oak retreat its so peaceful and the view and surrounding area is absolutely stunning. The sheep and cows right on your door step are lovely to see when sitting relaxing with a cuppa. The shepards hut has all you need for a relaxing stay, and its a short drive to the closest town but so many more places easy to get to lots to see and do. Thank you for a very memorable holiday.

I stayed in this stunning shepherd’s hut with my partner for my birthday, and it truly exceeded all expectations. Nestled in a peaceful corner of Cumbria, not far from the Lake District, the location was both easy to find and wonderfully secluded—perfect for a quiet escape. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that every detail had been thoughtfully considered. The hut itself was beautifully finished and incredibly private, offering a cozy yet spacious atmosphere. The amenities were outstanding—a full kitchen stocked with every tool we could possibly need, plus a great barbecue setup that made cooking outdoors a real treat. We especially appreciated the firewood provided for both the fire pit and barbecue—it made our evenings feel extra special. The welcome pack was another lovely touch, featuring delicious artisanal bread, cereal, tea, and coffee, which made settling in that much more enjoyable. It place felt like a real home away from home, but with the added charm of nature.

We loved our stay in the Shepherds hut it was a perfect small space. Extremely cozy, well equipped and the view was stunning. Perfectly placed for trips into Penrith to attend Potfest or heading into the Lakes. Thank you for having us we hope to return.

The instructions to reach the hut were clear and easy to follow—we had no trouble finding it! We were warmly welcomed with some local food on arrival, which made the experience even more special. Everything we needed for our getaway was thoughtfully provided, including lovely shampoo and shower gel. Insect repellents were also available for outside, making it much more comfortable to relax outdoors. There is another hut on the property, but a small patch of forest between them ensured privacy and a sense of seclusion. Couldn’t recommend it more!

Recently stayed at the Oak Retreat for four days. First time I chose to stay at such a place & it didn’t disappoint. Clean, cozy & had everything my son & I needed. If there’s a place you want to visit to get away from all the noise this is it. I would certainly arrange to stay again.

The Oak Retreat was an amazing hut to stay in. It is close to another shepherds hut it shares the small fenced “forest” with but gives you lots of privacy. A welcome breakfast basket was a great surprise, and the jam was the best we have had! 😍 the location is a perfect start-point to explore the Lake District with most of the best hikes within 30-50mins drive. Recommended 100%

Although space is limited in a shepherd’s hut, Oak Retreat had been planned extremely well. The fold away bed (which was very comfortable) was well thought out as this gave us extra space to use the table and seating arrangements during the day. Also the drawer under one side of the table was huge and great for storage. The welcome package was by far the best we have ever received in a self catering property and we enjoyed every bit of it (a lot of local produce). Also the toiletries provided were very nice, also Lake District products. Christine was very helpful and gave us an earlier check in and later check out at the hut. We had the added bonus of 4 days of sunshine, which was lovely for my birthday treat, so we never needed to light the log burner as the hut was very cosy. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the shepherd’s huts and would probably try one of the ones situated by the river next time. Thank you Christine, hope to see you again.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Oak retreat for our hiking trip. Lots of lovely surrounding towns, pubs and lakes. A prefect place to come back to after a long day, it had everything we needed. Christine was very quick with our queries and clear directions to the location. Exceptional service with some breakfast and groceries provided. We would definitely recommend this hut for future holidays. Thank you!

I stayed at Oak Retreat recently. The location was very peaceful and private. Christine was a wonderful host and always responded quickly to any enquiries and requests and provided some lovely local produce as a welcome The attention to detail in the hut was amazing. Everything had been thought about properly with very clever use of the space. It was very well equipped and had everything I needed and more. The drop down bed was very comfortable and easy enough to stow away in the morning leaving space to sit at a good sized table with seats at either side. The woodburning stove was a lovely addition. For anyone not versed in lighting fires there is a full set of instructions to help or alternatively central heating with easy to use thermostat. There are plenty of walks in the area and a great cosy pub serving food a couple of miles away and Penrith close by for anything else. I would definately recommend to all. Great value for money.
