Such a cosy homely Shepard’s hut. It is located in a private nook overlooking the river which was so peaceful. Really great location for hiking, being only a 15min drive from Blencathra. Christine was a fantastic host, being super accommodating and getting in touch in advance of our stay with all necessary instructions and also a list of local things to do. Would absolutely recommend staying here.

Absolutely stunning location, hearing the running river in the background is the cherry on top. Place was clean and surprisingly well equipped. Ideal location for getting to hikes and sights, would for sure visit again!

Our stay at hawthorn retreat was exactly what we wanted, a quiet place with beautiful surroundings. It was very well equipped and a lovely decked area to sit around at night with a glass of wine by the fire pit. Christine was a great host with good communication, we will definitely be returning in the near future.

Excellent, cozy hut in a lovely secluded spot, perfect for the two of us. As well as a great base for walks, we had breakfasts on the decking and a little drink in the evening with the log burner and saw the milky way. All of this with the gentle background sound of the stream. Idyllic.

We’ve just returned home from 4 nights at Hawthorn and we had the best time! The hut is so beautiful and well thought out, nothing was a miss. We arrived to bread, butter, eggs, milk, home made raspberry jam, apple juice and muesli! Tea, coffee and sugar was also provided. The information pack in the hut was full of useful information (different walks, places to visit etc). The bed was so comfortable and plenty of storage underneath for bags. The shower was really powerful and hot, which was amazing after a day in the mountains! The hut is also well positioned to the main areas of the lakes (Ullswater, Glenridding, Grasmere/Rydal) about a 30 mins drive! We didn’t see a single soul for 5 days and only heard the cows and the river at the bottom of the hut (so lovely in the evenings and mornings). We couldn’t take advantage of the outside seating areas due to the rain (typical) but it looked a beautiful spot for a cuppa! We had really informative emails from Christine before we arrived and even had the offer of a late check out. Before we booked I spoke with Jenny who gave so much information, they really go above and beyond! Parking is just across the road and is hidden away from the main road and a really short walk to the hut. We can’t wait to come back and are already looking at a trip in the spring! We stayed for 2 nights at Hawthorne, a very peaceful place to stay right next to the river. We couldn’t fault the hut it has everything we needed including some nice welcome essentials. The shower was nice and hot, bed was comfortable, WiFi is good we streamed Netflix on an evening no problem. We really couldn’t fault our stay great location for exploring the lakes. We walked straight from the hut on a walk recommended in the welcome pack. We ate at the Horse and farrier in dacre which I would recommend. We would definitely stay again.

Another excellent hut in a tranquil, riverside location. It was a pleasure to retreat here, slightly away from the other buildings (which we also rented for wedding guests) which provided a peaceful opportunity to tuck into the delicious treats from the hamper!

Booked as a lady solo traveller. Communication great from the start…a lot of details with regards to parking, finding the hut etc…found everything easily. There are 3 huts in total, I stayed in The Hawthorn, which was the second hut along. I only seen another person the last day of my stay…it is very peaceful (apart from noisy cows in the morning)! lots of outdoor space. Hut itself has everything you need. On arrival I found fresh bread, butter, cereal, eggs, & jam, tea bags & coffee. They do leave apple juice & milk but I had let the owner know I didn’t drink either so there would be no waste. Bed very comfy…Bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, body wash & soap all looked good quality but again I never used as I took my own. There are towels provided too. I was offered an earlier check in & also a later check out, which was lovely! Felt safe & would recommend.

Excellent little shepherds hut for the perfect Lake District break. In a good location just outside Penrith with easy access to Ullswater the hut is comfortable, cozy and exceedingly peaceful. We had a lovely few days here and would happily return.

We loved our stay in this adorable Shepherd’s Hut. The bed was king size, very comfortable and we slept incredibly well. It is very well equipped with fridge, gas hob and cooker and was lovely and warm inside. The shower is also a good size with good pressure in the ensuite bathroom, and there is a huge space under the bed for suitcases and to tuck other things away. We would definitely stay here again as the outside space is fantastic overlooking the river with three seating areas including the BBQ area. Highly recommend.
