Kirkbride Hall
Escape to country life at rose-gold Kirkbride Hall – all the grace and beauty of a classic country house with five-star modern luxury.
- Sleeps: 8
Blissful comfort in a modern Cumbrian classic
Kirkbride Hall, built from recycled dry-stone walls on the estates, looks like it’s been here forever. Curl up on your window-seat overlooking the sundrenched walls of the parish church of St John and daydream. Flip the dining table for a game of snooker and a chance to catch up. Stoke the wood stove with logs from the estate and stretch out on generous sofas and chaise longue for family film nights or to lose yourself in a book. Off kitchen duty? Invite in the caterers; there’s plenty of room. Or make the most of long summer nights and spark up the barbecue for a Cumbrian grill washed down with wine from your generous wicker welcome hamper of local delicacies.
Walled gardens, walks in the woods
Kick off your shoes on the lawn of your own walled garden. Hike the woods and fells with your dog (they’re always welcome here). Fish and paddle the Eden River, build dams and dens – there’s 20 acres of Melmerby Estate’s private grounds for you to explore. Go through the archway down to the river or past the church and into the woods. If you’ve booked Kirkbride together with Melmerby Hall, we can unlock the gate to a private pathway down through the walled garden to connect you.
Dive-into beds and walk-in wetrooms
Come home to cosset yourself in a down duvet encased in Egyptian cotton for a lie-in under the canopy of your four-poster. Gaze out at the folly and gardens of Melmerby Manor and the wooded valley beyond as the moon rises. Begin each new day refreshed by a luxury shower in your walk-in wet room followed by breakfast on your terrace overlooking the ancient orchard, to the chime of church bells. Feel your soul unwind at Kirkbride – convenience and tranquility in a rural idyll.
If you can bear to leave…
Stroll into the village for homemade cakes and scones at the Old Village Bakery. Enjoy a local brew at the Shepherd’s Inn or potter around La Brocante antiques, Hollberrie’s sumptuous homeware and ladies’ clothing, all discreetly squirreled away behind the rosy sandstone walls. Bask in the Eden Valley’s beauty. Go boating on the Lakes, riding and biking in the Pennine hills or fish for brown trout. They’re all on your doorstep.
