The larch was an amazing stay and offered a brilliant view of the planetary parade, solar eclipse, periods peak during our stay.

Somehow even better than the pictures! We have stayed in a lot of shepherds hut and I think this is the best one… amazing location in a very private area where you feel in the middle of the woods!
Very clean.
The shepherds hut has 3 different outside areas – outside the hut table and chairs, a fire pit area and a separate area close to a stream you can hear and relax.
Fantastic for anytime of year.
The hut had everything you need, I would definitely return if in the area again.

A stunning home in a beautiful location. The house is very comfortable and extremely well equipped with everything that you could possibly think of… and more! An amazing welcome hamper of delicious local goodies was waiting for us on arrival which was extremely generous. The rooms and facilities were beautifully furnished and spacious. Christine is a wonderful host and we would highly recommend Glassonby Old Hall to anyone.

Absolutely amazing, only wished we had booked longer. Will 100% be coming back – really peaceful and quiet but only a short drive from any villages/shops etc. Came with all the amenities you could need, was really happy thank you!

We had a lovely stay here. cosy, peaceful and honestly one of the best stays we’ve had in the Lake District. the little treats were such a thoughtful touch (and very tasty!). We absolutely loved our time here and will definitely be returning for our next trip to the Lakes. Thank you for a perfect stay! 🤍

I highly recommend Riverain for an excellent self-catering stay. The facilities in the cottage are perfect with a very well equipped kitchen and a lovely welcome hamper of goodies for us (and for the dog!). Having ensuite bathrooms with wonderful hot showers for every room was a real treat and the enclosed garden was a relaxing place to sit after a long day of walking.
The location of the cottage is fantastic – away from the hustle and bustle of the main lakes, but easy to get everywhere – Windermere and hadrians wall are less than an hour’s drive and Ullswater is very nearby. Christine was really helpful, sending out information about walks and activities before the holiday and also leaving lots of local ideas for food and walks in the local area.

Stunning place, beautiful little personal, thoughtful touches that made the stay even more enjoyable. Clean, charming and great location.

Had a wonderfully peaceful and comfortable few nights at Maple Retreat. The cabin was very well-kept and had everything I needed, including a pile of firewood and other generous touches from the host that really made the place homely. I felt very secluded even though a neighbouring cabin is only about 50m away – it’s nestled in the trees and faces out onto the country view, so I might never have known I wasn’t miles away from anyone. A lovely place to stay if you’re looking to unwind or as a base for local walks.

Beautiful house and very well equipped for larger groups, with plenty of crockery, cooking equipment etc.
Wonderful location and the houses are so clean and grounds well kept.
