Larch Retreat is nestled in the most peaceful little woodland and has great views across the northern Lake District. We loved waking up to views of a snowy Blencathra from the warmth of the shepherds hut. Christine was a great host and we found the hut very easily. It was also brilliant having milk, butter, bread and tea provided as we arrived quite late after work and hadn’t had time to pick up those supplies for breakfast. We also made the most of the fire pit and wood provided and stayed out to watch the Taurid meteor shower. We would definitely recommend a stay in Larch Retreat.

Having stayed in the first generation of the Rowley’s shepherds huts we were curious to see how these new ones compared, and we were happy to find that they met expectations (and depending on personal preference, may be better for some). Great to see the same attention to detail, glamping luxury and comfort with great facilities, setting and privacy. The new fold up beds did make them feel roomier, the mini wood burning stove a great atmospheric addition (and will now make us consider these as a winter option too) and being able to park right there was a plus. The only thing we missed from the originals was the sound of the beck right outside, but the views of livestock and distant fells was great. Would be happy to stay in any of them again!

This was the first time we have stayed in a Shepherd’s Hut, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. The standard was exceptional, everything you needed was there. The welcome hamper and card was a lovely gesture, especially the museli which I have ordered on my return home. The hut was compact, but designed to include all amenities to a high standard. Totally private with your own entrance gate. Well within driving distance to the Lake District and surrounding areas. Outside there was everything you needed for the bbq and fire pit. Unfortunately the weather was against us but we spent enjoyable evenings playing cards and scrabble. We are both in our 70’s , I had booked for 3 nights to celebrate my birthday. I wanted somewhere in a secluded spot with no TV to be able to relax. We were certainly able to do this. Waking up to peace and quiet, with beautiful views across the countryside . I would definitely recommend anyone booking this retreat

Couldn’t have been better, was so peaceful and cosy. Set in the most stunning grounds with proper countryside views.
The hosts went above and beyond to make you feel welcome and provided everything you could need; A beautiful hamper, with thank you card was such a lovely touch along with providing coals, logs, firelighters. These little touches make such a massive difference. Value for money in everyway.

Stayed in this sheperds hut and it was fantastic. Great hosts, arrived to an amazing hamper with jams,te,coffee,biscuits,milk,bread,and butter. Nice and clean well presented and great view over the fields. Private parking in ur own little woodland retreat

I felt very well rested after a three-night stay and would highly recommend it to anybody looking for a peaceful place to escape to. I will definitely be returning again soon!’
