Overview

Set amidst sprawling private landscaped gardens, the breathtaking historic Grade 1 listed Blencowe Hall has two massive castellated towers and magnificent living spaces in between. Situated in the small village of Blencow, or Blencowe near Penrith, The Hall has been sensitively curated by The Rowley Estates in the style of the era and many original features remain including exposed Elizabethan ceiling beams, stone inglenook fireplaces, buttressed walls and circular stone staircases.

Blencowe Hall has 12 luxurious bedrooms (10 are ensuite and two share an adjoining family bathroom), 11 bathrooms and 2 cloak rooms. The kitchens and Butler’s Pantry are ample for whipping up feasts or bringing in caterers on a lavish scale for celebration meals in the South Tower Dining Room.

Catch up for quiet conversation in the Oak Room snug and adjoining nook in the oak panelled entrance hall or shoot the breeze in the Billiards Room under the glow of a Tiffany lamp. Fire up the cast iron stoves and get the games and conversation flowing in the spacious Solar Room whilst you relax and enjoy this Cumbrian castle retreat.

Frequently asked Questions

Blencowe Hall sleeps up to 24 across 12 bedrooms – ten ensuite, with the remaining two sharing a family bathroom – and four of the rooms have zip-and-link beds that convert between a super-king double and twins. It suits everything from a multi-generational family gathering to a corporate retreat or a wedding party who’d rather have the run of a castle than a hotel floor.

The spacious living areas are ideal for large groups of friends or family to entertain and relax for multi-generational family gatherings, a corporate or activity retreat, a reading or art group, a yoga retreat or a wedding celebration.

Yes, dogs are very welcome here with no restrictions on numbers or breeds. The property has an enclosed private garden where dogs can roam and play safely off the lead, and the surrounding countryside offers fantastic walking. We love having four-legged guests and want your dog to enjoy their holiday just as much as you do.”

Yes, cast iron stoves warm the Solar Room, which spans an entire wing, and the Oak Room snug has its own fire too. Logs, kindling, matches and firelighters are provided on arrival, with further supplies at no extra charge. The stove is fully inspected and certificated, and  instructions are provided.

Yes, three dedicated EV charging points (Type 2 / 3-pin / 7kW) on site for guest use, suitable for all major electric and hybrid vehicles.  We recommend arriving with a reasonable charge as rural roads can add to journey times, but you will be fully charged and ready to explore by morning.  We provide instructions regarding using the EV chargers.

Yes, we welcome short breaks of two or three nights throughout the year, not just during peak seasons. Weekend breaks from Friday to Sunday or Monday and midweek breaks from Monday to Friday or for shorter periods are available subject to the booking calendar.

We recommend booking early as short break availability fills quickly, particularly in spring and early autumn seasons.

Yes. Riverain, Wythburn Cottage and Cazenovia Hall all sit within the Blencowe Hall grounds and can be booked alongside the Hall itself, and the Grade II listed Blencowe Hall Byre is available as an optional extra space for yoga, dining or presentations. Between them there’s room for weddings and reunions that outgrow the castle’s 12 bedrooms alone.
