This is our 3rd year at Elk Cottage. We absolutely love coming and love the surrounding areas. The Lake District is just so beautiful. Christine and her team are lovely as well and so helpful. We can’t wait to come back.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Larch Retreat. A beautifully decorated, comfortable and spacious Shepard’s hut overlooking fields and mountains…we were lucky enough to be able to see snow on peaks! Generous hamper of delicious local goodies was a very welcome sight when we arrived. There was an abundance of fire wood and we used both the log burner and fire pit. A BBQ is also provided. Quick Wi-Fi, well equipped kitchen, hot shower and lots of nice touches like board games and maps. We stayed for 4 nights and would have happily stayed longer. Perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle and well situated to explore the lakes. Would highly recommended.

Had a really lovely stay at Christine’s. Breakfast was provided and the place was exactly as it seems in the pictures. The location and instructions provided were very accurate and clear.

We stayed at Hawthorn Retreat for 4 nights and we really enjoyed our stay. Christine is a great host, always responsive, provided clear instructions about check in and about things to do around the property. Place itself is a catch. Surrounded in the woods, at the bank of the river and huge estate. We would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for a fantastic stay. It was so homely and clean. Bathrooms were lush!! We really loved it and the fact that you can walk from the back gate!

A fabulous farm house with fantastic views.
6 Great en suite bedrooms and a large kitchen /dining area with every facility/ utensil you need.
Two wood burners create a great effect, and the fire pit outside was a real bonus for sitting out and star gazing .
Christine is a fabulous host and couldn’t have been more helpful in making our stay memorable.
And the formal dining table can be converted into a snooker table!

We can’t express how perfect our 50th birthday has been and how much we and our guests enjoyed your beautiful property. It created the impression and the event we’d both wanted. The facilities and the overall spec are just second to none and all our guests commented on that.

Thank you for answering all our queries leading up to the event, and for helping to arrange the much needed help from Gail and the lovely young men.

Karen Rhodes catering were beyond excellent, and we’d thoroughly recommend them. The Elysia String Quartet were superb also and gave the ball the atmosphere it needed for us to Waltz around the Byre! Michael Coates events were phenomenal also, and he and his staff were just lovely and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves doing the clay pigeon shooting, archery and axe throwing. Once again – thank-you for everything. This was just the most perfect of weekends. We hope to stay with you again at some point.

Incredible stay. We have a large family (26 in total, with 14 kids!) and wanted to all be together for a 70th birthday. Before our stay, the owners could not have been more helpful with answering all of our questions and ensuring we had everything we needed for our stay. The accommodation was amazing – great big spaces to all be together, with plenty of smaller snugs and spaces for quieter times, a brilliantly equipped kitchen, great bedroom sizes and plenty of bathrooms. Location is fantastic – would definitely love to come back again!
