Cazenovia Hall

Live the dream at airy and lavish Cazenovia Hall, a five-star barn conversion in the heart of the Lake District’s Eden Valley

  • Sleeps: 8

Find deep tranquility in this vaulted barn conversion surrounded by lakeland wilderness

When you first step into Cazenovia’s high-vaulted kitchen with French windows opening either side onto cottage gardens and the rolling fells beyond, you’ll feel your spirits soar. Crack open your welcome hamper for an impromptu picnic. If the Lakeland mists descend, flip the dining table over and play a few frames of snooker till the evening draws in. The kitchen’s open-plan onto a dining hall lit with chandeliers, so you can keep the conversation alive as you whisk up a feast on your four-oven Aga. Gather the clan in the bright and spacious Gin Case Lounge for games. Around a blazing log fire, catch up or curl up with a book from the staircase library. Or simply gaze at the golden fields that unfurl for miles, spying out for wild hares and bats.

Luxurious calm inside, wild beauty beyond, a stay in Cazenovia Hall stands out forever.

Breakfast al fresco, let the kids roam

Throw open your French windows onto the sunny Southern terraces for leisurely alfresco breakfasts, scented by drifts of lavender along the mossy dry stone walls. Spark the coals for a hearty barbecue on the Weber as the sun sets across the vast open sky. Unleash dogs and kids to explore your grounds, from the ancient orchard to the little waterfall. Follow the winding stream by the long lawn. Play hide and seek in the garden. With Blencowe castle on your doorstep and the Lakeland Fells stretching as far as the eye can see, you’ll create magical memories here.

Balcony sunsets and sweet dreams

After long, full days, Cazenovia’s bedroom suites are sanctuaries. Steam aching muscles in cast iron baths and luxurious showers. Choose from two ground floor suites each opening onto their own spot of garden. Or head up the oak stairs to watch the sunset from the tranquility of your balcony. Opt for the vaulted Lorenzo suite with its king size antique bed and exposed rose stone walls or tuck up under the eaves looking out over sheep. Sink down under feather duvets wrapped in Egyptian cotton and drift into sweet dreams.

If you can bear to leave…

If last night’s celebrations went on a little longer than intended, blow the cobwebs away with a morning walk. There are miles of Lakeland routes to choose from starting at your front door. Greystoke village is a mile away, (the castle’s worth a visit; the tea’s a treat in the walled garden of the Cycle Café, and the brew’s local in The Boot and Shoe). It’s a short drive to Aira Force and Ullswater Lake for rambles, steamboat jaunts, water sports or afternoon tea at Michelin-starred Sharrow Bay. And once you’ve had your fill of natural wonders, you can always kickstart the adrenalin with a quad biking, clay pigeon shooting or paintballing spree.
