An idyllic riverside retreat set in private woodland of the Blencowe Hall estate.
Bluebells, red squirrels, songbirds. The turning of the seasons as colours shift in dappled light. At night the moon rises through laced branches of blackthorn and oak and the owls hoot.
It’s so magical we want to offer you a way to linger here. Head on foot through the fields and find your glamping haven in a secluded spot along the River Petteril.

Your hut is architect-designed to enhance space and comfort. Inside, reconnect with a simpler life. There’s no Wi-Fi here, so swap stories, play cards by candlelight or read by solar power.
Enjoy complete privacy with your own Scandinavian-style shower room and open-plan kitchen with a gas hob, oven and fridge. Dine al fresco using the Weber barbeque or whip up a boutique gourmet meal using the hob and gas oven. Relax in the Adirondack chairs whilst throwing a log on the fire pit and count the stars in style.

Wander down to the riverside and relax in the Adirondack chairs reading a book, chill at the garden table, fire up the Weber charcoal barbeque or light the fire pit in the evening time.
It’s glamping with luxury – resting on crisp Egyptian cotton linen sheets, cooking on a double burner gas hob with a separate small size LPG oven, chilling the drinks in the fridge and enjoying a hot shower whilst your towels warm on the chrome towel rail and even having a regular flush loo.

The Rowan Retreat is set in a secluded part of the River Petteril valley. The Lake District National Park, beautiful Ullswater lake and Aira Force waterfall are close at hand. Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of crystal-clear lakes, mirroring the Lake District Fells or seek out a peaceful retreat in nature in Rowan’s private wooded glade.

Rowan retreat was a very peaceful place to be, very picturesque christine was brilliant with the communication. All in all we had great time even with all the rain. Thanks

Very private cabin in a beautiful location. The cabin was very clean and exactly what we were looking for.

wonderful stay 🙂

We really enjoyed our stay in this secluded, cosy cabin. An excellent host, with proactive, clear instructions. Exactly what was needed for a stress free hiking trip to the Lake District. Would highly recommend.

We stayed here for a week whilst we explored the Lake District, it was a fantastic shepherds hut to stay in, with all the things we needed throughout our stay! It was private, secluded and peaceful which made for a truly wonderful nature experience! Would 100% recommend staying here and...

Everything was great and better than i expected.
Thanks Christine for everything

Rowan Retreat sleeps 2, in a private wooded glade along the River Petteril, with a Scandinavian-style shower room and an open-plan kitchen with a gas hob, oven and fridge.
Unlike most of our other properties, Rowan Retreat is intentionally offline – there’s no WiFi here, just solar-powered lighting for reading, cards by candlelight, and a proper chance to switch off. If staying connected matters for your trip, one of the other Petteril valley huts would suit better.
Yes – hot showers, a chrome towel rail for warm towels, and a regular flushing loo, same as the rest of the huts.
Oak Retreat or Larch Retreat nearby are better suited if you’re bringing a dog.
